The Untold Story: How Domo Made it on Dragons Den

The Untold Story: How Domo Made it on Dragons Den

Our Domo Dragons' Den Experience: A Journey of Passion, Tea, and Perseverance.
As an entrepreneur, there are moments that stick with you forever. For us at Domo Tea, one of those defining moments was stepping into the *Dragons' Den—Canada’s most iconic business pitch platform, where entrepreneurs face seasoned investors. It’s a test of not just the strength of your business idea, but your belief, passion, and resilience. And we were ready.  The Build-Up Domo Tea had been a labor of love for years. What started as a small passion for tea lattes at Ocha Tea Bar,  has grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined. As a woman-run business selling microground tea latte superfood powders, we’d carved out a niche in a competitive market. However, like any entrepreneur, I knew the importance of scaling, expanding our reach, and potentially gaining valuable partners. That’s what brought us to the Dragons' Den.  The preparation was intense. We worked hard to refine our pitch, perfect our numbers, and tell our story in a way that would resonate with the Dragons. I believed in Domo Tea with every fiber of my being, but walking into that room knowing you’re about to face investors who won’t hesitate to challenge you—let’s just say, it was nerve-wracking!  Facing the Dragons The day we arrived at the studio, the energy was electric. The Dragons' reputation preceded them: some were known for their kindness and support, others for being ruthless in their questioning. As we set foot in front of them, we were met with intense gazes, ready to evaluate not only the product but the soul behind it. We began our pitch with the story of Domo Tea’s journey, from our humble beginnings to the innovative tea latte mixes we had created. I could see their interest piqued as we talked about our unique blends, the benefits of consuming whole micro ground teas, and how we were changing the way people viewed tea lattes. But of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. The Dragons drilled into our numbers, our production costs, our margins—everything.  WE also forgot to mention that the Elixo (our feel better tea) had cayenne pepper in it!  Tea and other rising brands. The Turning Point What made our pitch stand out was the heart behind our brand. We weren’t just selling tea powders; we were selling a lifestyle of mindfulness, health, and self-care. The Dragons saw that. They saw our commitment to quality, sustainability, and community, especially as a women-led business that sourced premium ingredients from around the world. And it made an impact. One Dragon, in particular, was intrigued by our long-term vision—the idea of expanding beyond Canada, and even collaborating with cafes and wellness spaces globally. Our dream to become more than a product line, to be a movement, seemed to resonate.   Aftermath: What We Learned.....first off we should have probably waited until we were a tad bigger but what I can say is that our experience in the Dragons' Den was a game-changer. Whether or not we walked away with an investment, we left with something even more valuable: validation. Stepping into that space, under that kind of pressure, made us stronger. We were able to share our story with people who understand the highs and lows of business, and we came out the other side more confident and energized than ever.  Looking forward since our time on Dragons' Den, the support for Domo Tea has only grown. We’ve expanded our customer base, launched new collaborations, and have some exciting projects on the horizon. The Dragons' Den experience pushed us to dream bigger, and as always, we’re ready to embrace the journey. Whether you're already a fan of our tea latte powders or new to the Domo family, we invite you to join us on this exciting ride!
Life After Dragons' Den Since that whirlwind *Dragons' Den* experience, life has changed in so many unexpected ways. Business partnerships have come and gone, relationships have evolved, and my journey as a mother has taken center stage at times, especially raising my daughters, my oldest, who’s now studying Criminology and working part-time with us at Domo Tea (no she does not want to take over) and my younger little ball of energy is growing like a weed. There have been moments of triumph, betrayal, love, and deep reflection. Through it all, Domo Tea has been a constant. Even as life around me shifts—new ventures, personal growth, and challenges—the heart of Domo Tea remains the same. It’s been 15 years since we first launched, and what started as a small idea has become a symbol of perseverance and passion. Whether it’s navigating the ups and downs of partnerships or juggling the chaos of family life, Domo Tea has always been my anchor. No matter what life throws my way, Domo Tea keeps going. It’s not just a business anymore—it’s part of my life’s story. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.  With gratitude,
