The Story Behind the Elixo Cold Buster

As some of you may know, my journey with tea began long before Domo Tea. Back in 2001, I opened Ocha Tea Bar, a cozy spot that led to so many incredible friendships and ideas. One of those ideas eventually became what you now know as the Elixo Cold Buster.

At Ocha, we offered a lineup of amazing tea lattes and were always brainstorming new drink concepts. One day, a staff member shared an intriguing idea. They told me about a drink they used to make at a ski hill, combining hot orange juice and cayenne pepper. I was intrigued by the unique combination and decided to play with that concept myself.

I started experimenting, adding ginger tea and chamomile to the mix. Within six months, this new creation became the number-one selling drink at Ocha. Customers loved its comforting warmth and bold flavors, especially during the cold and flu season. It’s still a favorite at Ocha to this day.

Fast forward many years, after I had started Domo Tea, I felt inspired to recreate this beloved drink for a wider audience. But this time, I wanted it to be caffeine-free, easy to prepare, and in a powder format that would keep all the potent ingredients intact. This goal proved to be one of the most challenging recipes I’ve ever worked on.

Sourcing ingredients for a product like the Elixo is no small task. It took time and a lot of tweaking to get everything just right. My vision was to create a “feel better” tea packed with superfoods, but it also had to taste amazing and be simple to make. After all, when you’re feeling under the weather, the last thing you want is a complicated recipe.

What makes the Elixo Cold Buster so special is its powerhouse of natural ingredients. Sometimes we forget that our planet provides some of the most potent remedies for soothing colds and helping our bodies recover faster. With ingredients like camu camu, microground rooibos, freeze dried lemin powder,and cayenne, Elixo is designed to do just that.

Developing this drink was such a rewarding and creative process. I personally do all the recipes and source every ingredient myself, which allows me to ensure the quality and effectiveness of every product we create. For me, it’s not just about making something functional—it’s about creating something that brings comfort and care when people need it most.
