The Evolution of Coco: A Superfood Hot Chocolate Journey

Eighteen years ago, when I started Domo Tea, I never imagined it would evolve into what it is today. Over the years, as I carefully sourced ingredients and refined recipes, one thing became increasingly clear: the unnecessary additives in big-brand food products were everywhere. When we finally grew big enough to have our own warehouse and a Hobart mixer, I saw an opportunity to create something better—a hot chocolate brand that wasn’t just delicious but also nutritious. That’s how Coco was born.

Hot chocolate has always been a household favorite, especially for my two daughters, who love starting their mornings with a warm, comforting cup. But as any parent knows, getting kids to consume nutrient-rich foods can be a challenge—especially when one of them is an exceptionally picky eater. So, I did what any determined mom would do: I got sneaky.

I started adding superfoods like maca, carob, and raw cacao into their hot chocolate. The best part? My daughter never even noticed. There’s a special kind of satisfaction in knowing that I was giving her something she loved while secretly boosting its nutritional value. Moms really do become masters of disguise when it comes to getting kids to eat healthier! I even discovered that if I called a smoothie a “milkshake” and made sure it was pink, she’d drink it without hesitation.

The Superfood Power Behind Coco

Coco isn’t just about indulgence; it’s about harnessing the power of natural ingredients to create a truly nourishing experience. Here’s a closer look at some of the key superfoods that make our hot chocolate stand out:

1. Raw Cacao: The Purest Form of Chocolate

Raw cacao is packed with antioxidants, magnesium, and iron, making it a powerful mood booster and heart-healthy ingredient. Unlike processed cocoa, raw cacao retains its natural nutrients and flavonoids, which support cognitive function and reduce inflammation.

2. Maca: The Energy and Hormone Balancer

Maca is an adaptogenic root known for its ability to balance hormones, improve energy levels, and enhance stamina. It’s been used for centuries in traditional medicine to support overall well-being, making it a perfect addition to a morning hot chocolate.

3. Carob: The Naturally Sweet Superfood

Carob is a naturally sweet, caffeine-free alternative to cocoa that’s rich in fiber, calcium, and antioxidants. It’s especially great for children since it offers a chocolatey flavor without the stimulants found in traditional cocoa.

4. Cocoa: The Classic Comfort

While raw cacao is the purer form, cocoa still offers a delicious, familiar taste that people love. The key is choosing high-quality, minimally processed cocoa to ensure you’re getting the best flavor and nutrients without the additives.

The Future of Coco

As Coco continues to evolve, I remain committed to keeping it clean, simple, and packed with real ingredients. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with freeze-dried fruits to add new flavors, like our latest Strawberry Superfood Hot Chocolate. It’s been incredible to see how a simple idea—born from a mom’s desire to nourish her kids—has grown into a product that so many families can enjoy.

At the end of the day, who doesn’t love a good cup of hot chocolate? But when that cup also supports your health and well-being, it’s even more satisfying. Cheers to many more cozy, nutrient-packed moments with Coco!
